American Breakfast

Singapore is made up of many races, and we are blessed that we can enjoy many kind of food prepare by different races. For breakfast alone we can have Dim Sum from the Chinese, Malay will be Nasi Lemak, Kua Kua, Indian will be Roti Prata, and American Breakfast is what many of us like to have on a nice Sunday morning.

Today I prepared an American breakfast, lightly toasted bread with butter, honey baked ham, scrambled eggs and baked beans.

Meals prepare by me

I apply butter to the bread before I put it to toast. This is a way I learn from Yoshinoya breakfast, just they use a thicker bread. The Yoshinoya at Compass Point serve breakfast everyday. There are 3 kinds of American Breakfast to choose from, and the meal come with a cup of  Tea or Coffee.

Yoshinoya Breakfast

Scrambled eggs is my first try today, nomally I will cook sunny side up, and the reason is Cafe Cartel breakfast. I love Cafe Cartel breakfast, and I know someone is just not ready to get out of bed yet, home cook will be a better choice for my craving.

Sausage, Bacon & Eggs from Cafe Cartel

Cafe Cartel only serve breakfast on Sat & Sun. The breakfast set will be serve with a small bun, and free flow of coffe and tea, also we can choose the way we want the eggs to be cooked; over easy, sunny side up & scrambled.

Freshly Baked Bun from Cafe Cartel
Cafe Cartel bread are baked freshly in the store. The bun that come with the set is very puffy and soft and is served warm. They use to serve free flow of bread in the store, but have stop the free flow few months ago. I still remember, everyone will rush to the bread counter when ever there are new batch serve. But lucky for us, the bread is in the meal now, we still can order and enjoy it.

Coffee from Cafe Cartel

The coffe they serve is also one of my favorite, is smooth and fragent. The most important is, it don't have bitter after taste. And is free flow during breakfast, that mean I can enjoy a few more cups.

So, what do you like for breakfast?

Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration @ JB City Sq

Today we went across the causeway to JB City Sq to meet Doraemon.
The crossing of custom was very smooth, but spend around 30 mins in the q for the bus to cross over the causeway. Today the CW buses was the last one to come and 3 CW buses all come together.

Over all the whole experience at both SG and MY custom was very smooth. Lucky us!
It was years that hubby last visited the woodland custom, he was like a little boy, keep asking me about things he see when we are on our way.

City Sq is a building beside the MY custom, and we just need to walk across the overhead bridge from the MY custom building. City Sq building has been under renovation for sometime, when we visit there today many of the places is still cover with dust and many shops are still under renovation. But the first floor open space is nicely done up and is having event there.  The reason we are here is for the event, so the dust and mess at the other floors don't bother us much.

The event 'Doraemon 100 Years Before Birth Mid Autumn Festival Celebration'.
There are area for Doraemon merchandise and many stores selling Moon Cake for Mid Autumn Festival.
Moon Cake are traditionally eaten during the Mid Autumn Festival. Chinese will buy Moon Cake as gift for friends and family. Traditionally family will gather around under the moon on Mid Autumn to eat Moon Cake and drink Chinese Tea, and the children will carry brighly lit Lanterns.

We had our lunch at Kim Gary HK cafe.

Kim Gary's ceiling lights

I had Iced Ying Yang and Mushroom Rice with Beef, he had Coke, Vegetable Dumpling Soup and Tomato Spaghetti and Beef.

Our Food
I love their Mushroom Rice, the rice was cooked with chinese mushroom, the mushroom is very smooth and fragrant. And the corn that come with it, is fresh and juicy. The beef was just cooked lightly and is still tender. My mouth is fill with the fragrant of the mushroom and rice. Yum!

After our meals we walk around the first floor and found many Doraemon,

There are even store selling Doraemon Moon Cake.

And these are my catch for the day;

3x T-Shirt
4x Special Doraemon with 100 at the foot

Free Recycle Bag that come with 3 t-shirt

Overall it was a fun but tiring trip. Happy to see so many Doraemon's merchandise that we don't find during our HK trip.  Hope the renovation in the building will be over soon, and we can continue to enjoy our shopping there.

Hubby is so tired and went to bed right after we reached home.

Earl Grey Lemon Tea at Din Tai Fung

When someone talks about Din Tai Fung everyone will be thinking of their Xiao Long Bao. And I believe there are many who have written about Din Tai Fung, particularly how friendly and well trained the staff are. I will not repeat all this today even though I had a very good dining experience.

I will share what impressed me today, their Earl Grey Lemon Tea. I love Earl Grey Tea, but this one really stands out from many that I have had before. Normally, when we dine at Din Tai Fung, we will just have the Chinese tea served.  Today when we are there hubby comment they have Iced Earl Grey Lemon Tea, and I love Earl Grey Tea. (Earl Grey Tea in Chinese restaurant?)
It was served like any other iced lemon tea, in a tall glass with lemon slices.
Earl Grey Lemon Tea

After a few slips, I just fall in love with it. It was refreshing, being not too sweet, nor bitter, and had a fragrant Earl Grey finish. The light fragrant just flow inside the mouth nicely.  It was also a nice touch for them to use a single globe of frozen tea ice cube, instead of plain water ice cube which would have watered down the perfect balance of flavours.

Globe of frozen tea ice cube

It was like a nice ice blended tea at the end. A good drink to have on a hot day.

Good food, great service…  And my new favourite Earl Grey Lemon tea! Thank you Din Tai Fung for another great dining experience.

Why I blog

This is not the first time I write blog; a few years back I had a private blog with some ex-colleagues to share some gossip in the office. About 2 years ago, when one of my online friends started his food blog, I passed him some of the food photos I took.

I love to take photos, and have a Panasonic GF1 since 2009. Learning basic photography from Mr. Adrian Seah in 2010, made me enjoy photography even more. After getting myself a compact camera in May, my photo collection grew really fast.

After looking at my photo collection, my hubby suggested to me to document my photos in a blog. Writing a blog was what I wanted, but my language was weak, so the whole idea was just hanging there.

A few weeks back my friend was suggesting to me something about blogging since I was not working and have more time on my hand. The idea still hung there because I was still not confident about writing.

On 20th Aug when I was having lunch at Din Tai Fung with hubby, the Earl Grey Lemon Tea they served impressed me. The tea touched my heart and I document it down when I reached home that day.  Why it was not my first entry here you may ask. That is another story!
